How to apply for a PAN card online?

One has to follow the below-mentioned simple steps and fill in the following necessary details on the official website to apply for PAN Card online.

A permanent Account Number (PAN) is a ten-digit alphanumeric number issued by the Income Tax Department to identify every taxpayer in India. A PAN Card includes all tax-related information. PAN enables the Income Tax Department to link the financial transactions of the “person” with the department. These transactions include tax payments, TDS/TCS credits, income/wealth/gift returns, specified transactions, correspondence, and so on. It is mandatory to quote PAN in all documents pertaining to financial transactions.

PAN is necessary for many other reasons, such as opening a bank account, applying for loans, starting an FD, applying for a Debit/Credit card, applying for a Voter Id/License, buying a vehicle/jewelry/property, and for insurance payments also.

Who must have PAN Card?

  1. All existing taxpayers or persons who are required to file a return of income must obtain PAN.
  2. Any person carrying on any business or profession must have PAN.
  3. Any person, who intends to enter into a financial transaction where PAN is mandatory, must also obtain PAN.
  4. The Assessing Officer may allot PAN to any person either on his/her own or on a specific request from such person.

How to apply for a PAN Card Online?

One can easily submit the application to TIN-FC or an NSDL Centre. Apart from submitting the application offline, NSDL accepts applications online too. All you have to do is to follow the below-mentioned steps and fill necessary details and upload the documents.

STEP 1

  • Visit the official website of TIN-FC or NSDL by clicking here.
  • Fill in the details like Application Type (New PAN-Indian Citizen (Form 49 A), Category (Individual), Title (Shri/Smt/Kumar/Kumari), Name, Date of Birth, and contact details.
  • Enter the CAPTCHA code and the ‘submit’ button.
  • A token number will be generated to proceed with the application.

STEP 2

  • Three options are given to submit the documents firstly, submit the documents either digitally using e-KYC and e-sign or submit scanned images via e-sign or else forward the documents physically. After document submission is made, read and fill in the details carefully and click on the ‘NEXT’ button.

STEP 3

  • Fill in the details related to your source of income, address, and contact details.
  • One can save the draft of the application at this stage so that their information does not get missed out.

STEP 4

  • Enter the AO (Assessing Officer) details which are already there on the same page.
  • After filling in the details, click on the ‘NEXT‘ button.

STEP 5

  • In the last stage, enter the details about the documents uploaded as proof of identity, address, and date of birth.
  • Upload photo and signature.
  • After this, click on the ‘SUBMIT‘ button to complete the process.

STEP 6

  • After submitting the application, you have to make the payment.
  • You will get OTP on your mobile number, which is linked to your Aadhaar.
  • Enter the OTP and print the receipt.
  • Sign the receipt and send it to the NSDL Office via courier or post within 15 days from the application date.
  • Subscribe the envelope with ‘APPLICATION FOR PAN -N- (15 – digit Acknowledgement Number)’.
